Charity Begins At Home

Maybe you’ve heard of the “Giving Pledge,” in which Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and a bunch of other billionaires around the world have pledged to give away almost all of their wealth eventually. Some of them have already started to do by funding big projects to eradicate disease, dig wells, build roads, etc., in some of the world’s poorest regions. I admire such thinking and am proud to work at a company that holds to the belief that successful businesses ought to share the wealth.

We at Dutton Plumbing are nowhere close to billionaire status, and our contributions would have little impact on the type of global projects supported by the Giving Pledge participants. In fact, although as individuals some of us may contribute to worthwhile national charities, as a company we prefer to devote our charitable resources to local causes. Here are some examples:

  • Last month, in conjunction with Valentine’s Day, Dutton Plumbing installed a new gas line at Golden Heart Ranch in Agoura Hills. Golden Heart Ranch is a nonprofit organization that serves young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization depends heavily on donations and volunteerism to provide its critical, life-affirming services. Unplanned costs can present a big obstacle. One of our technicians was dispatched to GHR for an unrelated repair, during which he learned the ranch did not yet have its gas line installed. We decided to complete this much-needed work and covered 100% of the cost, including materials and labor.
  • We also reached out to the Santa Paula Animal Shelter to donate a brand new water heater at no cost to the shelter itself. We installed new flex lines, a new gas shutoff, and offered more service at no charge. The shelter referred us to another animal shelter in need, and we did not hesitate to help where we could.
  • You may have seen one of our service trucks driving around with a completely different color scheme than our other vehicles. They’re all pink! When you see one of our pink service trucks, you should know that 10% of all profits earned by these trucks is donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in an effort to further cancer research and help those affected by the disease.

These are just a few of our charitable endeavors that take place on a regular basis. How do we determine a worthy cause?

That’s where you come in. We invite all of our customers and well-wishers to send us information about a nearby charitable organization in need. If you know of one that could benefit from our services or monetary contribution, contact Dutton Plumbing today or call us at (805) 849-0965.

As a family owned company, we treat each customer as an extension of our family. With that in mind, our plumbing team is dedicated solving your problems in whatever way we can. We wish health and success to all of you!
